Highlights of this years event - and what to find where

Details of the 2016 event are still being finalised, so watch this space to find out more about exactly which highlights you'll find at this years Fleetwood Tram Sunday.

Vintage and Unusual Vehicle Highlights

A coach comes home!

A 1949 single decker coach is coming back to the Fylde coast 67 years after it left!

Coach and bus enthusiasts are delighted that this Foden 1949 single decker coach will make an appearance at Fleetwood Festival of Transport – Tram Sunday – on 17 July.

The coach was built by H V Burlingham Ltd. and sold to Ralph Bullock of Stockport the same year. Bullock’s ran the coach until 1973 when it went into retirement at the age of 45.

But that wasn’t the end for the coach, as it retired to the Greater Manchester Transport Museum where it has been admired over the years. It is the only roadworthy Foden coach of its type at the Museum and it will be great to see it make the journey to Fleetwood for Tram Sunday.

For those who like details, it is Foden PVSC6 single decker coach Reg No LMA 284 – look out for it on the day!

As well as the 1949 coach Bullock’s are also bringing a second, modern coach full of people (the one in the photo) who want to experience the heritage vehicles, arts and everything else that makes Tram Sunday such a fun family day!

A Beast of an American Truck

This is a Kenworth W900 American Truck. It's a huge beast of a truck and it will be on site all day at Tram Sunday. Come and take a look!

Also coming along is one of the original Simon Templar 1960’s Volvos from the TV series The Saint which starred Roger Moore.

On the day, look out for a little bus called ‘Suzy’ - more about that later!

The Tameside Car Collectors is a vehicle club whose vehicles regularly appear in TV shows and period dramas. Will you recognise any from your favourite show?

Fetch the Fire Brigade!

This Shand Mason single cylinder was one of three bought from London Fire Brigade in 1916 by the Posnett family who owned the Highfield Tannery in Runcorn. It was then donated to Runcorn Town Council.

It was inherited by Cheshire County Fire Brigade some years later and was renovated during the winter of 1995-96 by Mr Bill Davies of Wrexham.

It is still shown at many rallies in Britain and Europe by kind permission of the Chief Officer of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. It's believed to be the oldest of it's type anywhere in the world still to be in full working order.

You can see this wonderful specimen of engineering at Tram Sunday on 17 July 2016.

Chris Allen Mazda to show top tech at Tram Sunday

Chris Allen Mazda, the main sponsor of the Fleetwood Festival of Transport, has announced it will show the latest Mazda sports car and SUVs alongside the classic celebration of transport at the event known as Tram Sunday (Sunday 17 July).

Since it began in 1985, Tram Sunday has grown into a fantastic FREE family day out and now includes a variety of transport, from trams and buses, to classic cars and bikes. For 2016, the event is expected to be bigger and better than previous years, with the transport parade travelling through the town and finishing at the Memorial Park.

It will feature a number of sponsors and stalls throughout the event, including an area outside St. Peter’s church from Chris Allen Garages. To demonstrate the style and substance of the Mazda range, the Chris Allen team will bring a Mazda CX-3 compact SUV and the all-new Mazda MX-5 sports car from its base in Amounderness View, Copse Road in Fleetwood.

Mazda Dealer Principal Pauline Harding said, “We have sponsored this iconic FREE family local event for several years now and over this time the festival has grown in size with attendance each year rising well beyond anyone’s expectations. Craft Village

Planning for Tram Sunday 2016 is well underway and we can now announce a new feature for this years event - The Craft Village.

It will be sited near Ash Street at the south end of Lord Street (the Asda/Freeport end) and should provide even more fun for those with a crafty interest.

There will be a number of gazebos each housing crafts such as sewing, knitting, jewellery and glassware.

Keep an eye out for a bright transformation in the weeks leading up to the event - there's a surprise in store as the area is going to be brought to life in a crafty way...

If you want to know more about booking a stall, contact Jacqui at Topstitch. Email topstitchfleetwood@gmail.com

Send details by email to Jacqui of what you wish to sell. To maintain variety the numbers of people selling the same thing are limited so its vital that you send images and/or links to items.

No trading license is needed but insurance is a must for Tram Sunday for all stallholders.
