Tram Sunday, or Fleetwood Festival of Transport as it’s officially known, is the epic day-long event which fills the town of Fleetwood from end to end, attracting 70,000 people with something for all the family.

Tram Sunday is on Sunday 16th July 2017

Once again, this year it will incorporate the SpareParts Arts Festival.

This is a community event, run by a team of volunteers who have grown it from strength to strength and wish to continue that growth and also improve the quality of the event year on year so that it continues to be a market leader. It has taken place for over 30 years and more volunteers are crucial to achieve this.

Preparations are well underway for the next Tram Sunday event, the fun-packed day out for all the family... the largest FREE event of its kind!

Volunteer - with a chance to win a trip to Disneyland

Organisers of Fleetwood Festival of Transport and the SpareParts Arts Festival are on the hunt for volunteers to help the big day a success.

The combined festivals make for the biggest day of the year for Fleetwood, attracting over 70,000 visitors into the town, and volunteers are integral to making it happen.

There are a variety of roles available and anyone who volunteers for at least six hours on the day will be entered into a prize draw to win a trip for two to Disneyland Paris kindly donated by World Travel Lounge.

Amanda White, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Fleetwood Festival of Transport, said: “Every year we are supported by an outstanding team of volunteers and this year will be no different.

“The operation to put Tram Sunday on is huge as you can imagine so having the community on the ground making it happen is essential.

“We’re delighted that this year, thanks to World Travel Lounge, we’re able to offer a prize draw to win a trip to Disneyland Paris for everyone who helps us as recognition of all their hard work.”

The operation to put the festival together on the day starts at around 6am but there are volunteering roles available throughout right up until it’s time to pack up at 5pm.

Volunteers are required to do everything from marshalling vehicles into position in the morning to giving out programmes, as well as being ‘steampunks’ who will animate the SpareParts arts village.

Everyone who signs up to be a volunteer will also receive a T-Shirt and a free lunch as well as entry into the draw, and be thoroughly briefed before the day so they know exactly what to expect.

David McDonald, Managing Director at World Travel Lounge, added: “We’re delighted to support this fantastic annual event, and give local people who are giving something back to their community to chance to win this brilliant prize.”

The Planning team are now looking for volunteers (aged 18+) to help.

Could you be part of Tram Sunday?

‘On the Day’ Volunteers

The day itself is both busy with plenty of hustle and bustle AND enjoyable with so many visitors to the town and usually a great local turnout. There are many different tasks that our volunteers undertake, whilst enjoying the carnival atmosphere of course!

Volunteers work to zone managers who allocate tasks and support the volunteers. Most of our ‘on the day’ volunteers also assist with the parades, whether that be helping to escort the parades through the town or helping to ensure the safety of the public whilst the parades pass through their zone.

Specific roles include Marshals, who are needed in the morning to help park the exhibitor’s vehicles based on the event plans, and to help with all the set up needed before the event opens.

Then there are the Stewards who are the ‘face’ of Tram Sunday, there to interact with the public, whether that’s providing help, like directions, or just letting them know what’s coming up next from the event programme.

Whether you’ve volunteered before or this is your first time, you’ll be welcomed to our team. Experience isn’t strictly necessary as training is available, but enthusiasm and a few hours to spare on the day is all that’s needed. Lunch and drinks are provided for volunteers on the day

If you want to be involved in this unique event and experience it on the day from a different perspective - SIGN UP NOW!

Planning Team Volunteers

Unless you have already been involved in the organisation of an event like this you can’t begin to imagine how much hard work, time and effort goes into its delivery throughout the previous twelve months.

Some skills and a professional attitude would be useful for various roles – the team are looking for someone to carry out a project management role, a community liaison person or team who could talk to the many existing groups and schools here on the Fylde Coast, an arts coordinator to develop and grow SpareParts Arts and someone to help with general administration.

If you can work under your own steam (pardon the pun!), are able to commit some time to the tasks and essentially, have a modicum of common sense, you are the volunteer we need - SIGN UP NOW!

So why get involved?

The benefits of volunteering are countless, allowing you to try something new and meet new people; it can help you to develop your skills or practice your talents and can enable you to be a part of your community.

You are guaranteed a warm glow of satisfaction, new friends, a fascinating new interest and the knowledge that you have been part of making something special get even better.

You’ll also know that you are helping to put Fleetwood and the area on the map, with not just local people but also with the many visitors who come from far afield every year to enjoy this annual tradition
