Fleetwood Radar Station on the promenade next to the Lower Lighthouse, was another B&FC Nautical College building. You’ll have passed it many times.
It was designed by Lancashire County Council Architect’s Department for the practical training of masters and crews in the latest radar technology. Built in 1961, for many years it was home to the School of Maritime Operations at Blackpool and the Fylde College.
To recognise its contribution towards Britain’s communications technology revolution in the 1960s, it’s been a listed building since 2003. Now, the distinct building is all set for a new chapter.
New Future for Fleetwood Radar Station
Fleetwood Radar Station, the quirky seafront building on stilts, went under the hammer at the end of January 2024. It now has a new owner.
Architect Iain Garnell from Leicester intends to turn it into a ‘live-work’ home for his company Design Three Sixty. Pictures have been released showing how he intends to return the Grade II building to its former glory.
