Just off the main promenade at Laidleys Walk, Fleetwood you’ll find a boating lake and a clubhouse cabin set against a car park. It’s the home to the Fleetwood Model Yacht & Power Boat Club. It’s great fun to watch, or maybe you’d like to get involved and give sailing model boats a go?
Fleetwood Model Yacht & Power Boat Club
Members hold sailing fixtures throughout the year. On mid-week days and at weekends you’ll see people around in the area, and sailing when the weather is OK.
Big events are also held right here in Fleetwood which draw competitors from all over the UK and from abroad. Especially in years when the World Championships are held here.

More about Fleetwood Model Yacht & Power Boat Club
The Fleetwood Model Yacht & Power Boat Club was formed in 1929 – the lake was officially opened in 1932. In the same year the club held its first National Championship for 6 Metre model Yachts.
In the following year, 1933, the British Open A Class Championship was held for the first time at Fleetwood. Since then, Fleetwood has held many major National and International Championships for many classes of boats. There’s a racing section for model yachts rules and a thriving Scale section. This section is active in all aspects of scale and semi-scale, both yachting and power.
Over the years constant improvements have been made to the clubhouse and the lake facilities. It’s now one of the finest clubhouses in the country.
Everyone is welcome who is interested in this sport and hobby. It’s also a great place to while away a nice afternoon, with a drink and snack from the cabin cafe. Enjoy a brisk walk on the fabulous seafront, and a chat to the ducks and swans – who expect food from everyone!

Fleetwood Boating Lakes
There are two boating lakes between the sea and main promenade at Fleetwood seafront. They’re separated by a bridge which takes you to the coastal footpath.

I am trying to contact someone from the model boat club about some model boats we have that we no longer use and would like them to go to someone who would like to have one but cant afford to buy one. They all need work on them.
You’d need to contact the boat club direct, get them via their own website.
Can I take a dinghy down for my son to use down there or is it not allowed
To the best of my knowledge you can use your own sailing craft on the bigger boating lake. Wyre Council own it so for a definitive answer you’d need to contact them direct.

Hi, you’d need to contact the club direct, and ask them about which kinds of boats you can run as a member. You can turn up outside club meet times and use the pool though.
