Fleetwood is through to the second round of the £675m Future High Streets Fund. If successful, the bid for funding will enable the regeneration of Fleetwood Town Centre.
Have your Say on Fleetwood’s Future

A ‘drop in’ event will be held on Tuesday 3 December at Fleetwood Marine Hall, The Esplanade, FY7 6HF, between 2.00 and 7.30pm. It’s an opportunity for you to discuss your future vision for Fleetwood. View the initial proposals and enjoy festive refreshments.
It’s also a chance to see the wider initiatives and proposals that are being developed in Fleetwood. Including

Regeneration of Fleetwood Town Centre
Published 25 July 2019
Fleetwood is one of over 50 areas across the country that are through to the second phase of a multi-million pound fund to transform high streets.
Wyre Council will now receive up to £150,000 of funding after getting through to the second phase of the government’s £675m Future High Streets Fund. The money will enable them to work up detailed project proposals, based on the initial plans.
The Future High Streets Fund was launched in December 2018. It’s part of the Government’s plan to help high streets to evolve and adapt to changing times. The aim is to create thriving places where the community feels engaged. Vibrant town centres where people live, shop, use services and spend their leisure time.
Challenges and Plans
The first phase of the Future High Streets Fund called for places to set out their challenges and strategic approach to regenerating town centres. Fleetwood will now move forward to the second phase, which involves the development of a full business case.
The total amount to be allocated is £675 million. Each successful place will receive up to a maximum of £25 million.
The objective is to renew and reshape town centres and high streets. It will be done in a way to improve experience, drive growth and ensure future sustainability.
Then Prime Minister Theresa May said: “Our high streets lie at the heart of local communities. They should create jobs, boost the economy and help small businesses to thrive.
“But new technology and changes in the way we shop means they also face growing challenges. I’m delighted that over 50 towns will initially benefit from this scheme.
Breathing New Life into Town Centres
“The funding will breathe new life into town centres. Together with measures such as small business rate cuts and opening up empty shops, it will transform our high streets for the future.
Councillor Michael Vincent, Planning and Economic Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council said: “We are delighted to be have been chosen to go through to the next stages of the Future High Streets Fund.
“High streets are the beating heart of our communities and this fund will allow us to develop plans to take action to strengthen Fleetwood’s economy.”
