Queen's Award for Healthier Fleetwood

Healthier Fleetwood

Healthier Fleetwood was established in 2016 by Mountview Surgery GP Mark Spencer, community leaders and local residents. It’s aim is to connect residents to each other and to local services. Building self-confidence and encouraging individuals to take control over their health and wellbeing.

New Information Centre for Healthier Fleetwood

In early 2024 Healthier Fleetwood opened a new Information Centre in the town. It’s a hub for sharing details of the many groups and events which support local residents’ health and wellbeing.

Opening hours at the Information Centre are currently Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 3pm. Enjoy a hot drink while you chat with the Healthier Fleetwood team about what’s happening in the community.

Find it located in the former Regenda Homes offices on Lord Street, Fleetwood opposite St Peter’s Church. There’s more than 100 activities on display with more being added every day. Themes include coffee mornings and friendship groups and arts and crafts. Music and singing, getting out and about, sports and fitness. Plus volunteering in the community and more, and for all ages.

Professor Mark Spencer is founder of Healthier Fleetwood. He said, “It’s only when you see everything in one place you realise how much is available. And the huge number of opportunities for local residents to try something new. It could be singing with Harmony & Health, the Promenade parkrun, or a craft group at the library. Try volunteering for Fleetwood in Bloom or just going for a walk and a talk. The health and wellbeing benefits of connecting with others can lead to truly wonderful outcomes. The new Information Centre will play a central role in the creation of a happier and healthier Fleetwood.”

Steve Newsham was, at the time, Regional Director of Regenda Homes. He added, “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Healthier Fleetwood. By welcoming them into our premises on Lord Street, we hope more people can access the support they provide.”

Queen’s Award for Healthier Fleetwood

Mountview Surgery GP Mark Spencer, community leaders and local residents established the group in 2016. Dr Spencer added “Our role has always been to help connect residents to each other and to local services. Building self-confidence and encouraging individuals to take control over their health and wellbeing. This award recognises how much the whole community has achieved. It’s a great way to say thank you as we look to the challenges ahead.”
